Biathlon World Cup in Grand Bornand

One week of filming

The Biathlon World Cup was held on 10-15 December. Following two days of official practice for the competitors, the relay races set off on Thursday 12 December, followed by the sprint events and ending with the chase. For the four-day event, a thirty-strong team from AMP VISUAL TV installed and tested the recording apparatus in preparation for the event. A full week of work for our team on the ground, working against snow, cold, and long distances to ensure filming over a course stretching for several miles.

Comprehensive solution

Our Millennium 1 OB truck, working from the TV Compound, managed a complex technical setup that included 23 cameras feeding its mixer. Furthermore, on some courses the cameras had to change position to highlight the unique nature of each event. We provided the international feed, managed with 14 simultaneous commentator stations - 6 of which were fully equipped for ARD (Germany), Eurosport France, Eurosport International, RTR (Russia), L'Equipe 21 (France), TV4 (Sweden) - as well as stand-up positions. Our Millennium 1 OB truck is also able to provide particularly rich and precise graphics that present the race to viewer as a story.

International coordination

World Cup means a number of nationalities on the field, as well as a multinational TV production team. In this instance, Sweden's Johan Bernhagen was in the Millennium 1 OB truck to manage the international feed. The production itself was provided by a team from Switzerland, and German cameramen followed the director's orders. This melting pot wouldn't be complete without our very own French team, turning our Millennium 1 OB truck into a televisual united nations for the duration of the event.
