The Route du Rhum 2014 sets off

Route du Rhum 2014-3

On Sunday 2nd November, 91 sailors set off on the Route du Rhum, ready to defy the assaults of the Atlantic Ocean from Saint-Malo to Point-à-Pitre. Our RF team was mobilised on every front to offer exceptional immersive images for an optimal aesthetic and understanding.

Whilst representing a particularly emotionally-charged moment for those competing, the start of a sailing race is a tactical and sporting challenge that is sometimes difficult to understand for the general public. France Télévisions dedicated 2 hours of its programming to the start of the Route du Rhum, as the channel wanted to offer a better understanding of this unique moment. Thus, they appealed to our unique expertise in nautical sports, asking us to enrich the experience with RF images.

2 helicopters equipped with Cinéflex spherical cameras flew over the start zone, offering wide shots and close-ups of each sailor's tactics. An RF camera was on-board one of the 91 competitor's boats -the PRB skippered by Vincent Riou - for an unrivalled immersion. While an RF camera followed journalist Patrick Soulabaille on the Prince de Bretagne, another RF camera was on-board a speedboat to follow journalist Laurent Bignolas and his commentary as close to the action as possible. All of the RF signals were relayed to our RF reception truck by our relay plane, before being sent to France Télévisions' truck in charge of the international signal.

A real sporting challenge, the Route du Rhum is also an exceptional human adventure to keep a close eye on for the ten days until their arrival at Pointe-à-Pitre.
